Solar charge controllers

Charge controllers are installed between the solar panels and batteries and their function is to regulate the power transfer between the panels and the batteries. The controller or regulator is responsible for controlling the voltage that is transmitted to the batteries, as well as ensuring that the battery's power level is optimal. There are two types of charge controllers, conventional or PWM and maximiser or MPPT. The difference between these two types of controllers is the power output that can be obtained from the panels, which is higher for MPPT.
